A friend had this Cypress wash up at his hunt'n club off the sipsey river and asked if I could get him a box call out of it. The piece was big enough for about 10 boxes, so I said sure if I can keep the rest. Between the rot and cracks this is all I got. I was hoping to put a cherry or purple lid on but they seem to have to much vibration. The cedar lid I used sounds great but just doesn't look right to me.   Any Ideas on a different lid ?

I've put walnut lids on a couple of my cypress and it sounds pretty good.  IF the sides are too thin then you can get too much vibration.  At least that has been my problem.
If you can't stand behind our troops.  Feel free to stand in front of them.

I left the sides thick because I had done some cedar too thin before. This wood seemed to be very lite, but wet at the same time. I hadn't worked any cypress before so I don't know whats normal and whats not.
