For any of you who might be interested in still target shooting events, you can visit
http://www.nwtf.org/in_your_state/?dest ... events.php then you can click on a state and find out if one is there, under shooting events.

We'd love to see you out there.

Thanks,
Clark

Thanks Clark, it would be neat to give it a shot sometime. Just curious.. does everyone participating in a still shoot fire the same ammo? I really know nothing about the rules of these shoots, it would seem unfair if someone using factory ammo was shooting against someone using some tss handloads. Also is there a shot size and velocity restriction? Shell length restriction? I know you'll have these answers Clark, I'll check back later.

You're welcome. It would be good to see you out there.

The organizer of the event chooses the ammo. The rules state that it must be a factory loaded 3" shell, in either #4, #5 or #6 shot but in reality, most if not all organizers today choose #6 shot.

There may be a choice of brands of shells or there may be only one brand. At most of the state and regional shoots for the last couple of years Hevi-13 shells have been available and at some events Winchester XRHD shells have been available. When given a choice, shooters have chosen to shoot Hevi-13 shells.

At the world championship in October last year there were shells available from Hevi-Shot, Winchester and Remington. I do not recall any being there from Federal but its possible there were some.

To the best of my knowledge, all shooters there chose to shoot Hevi-13 shells in both 12 gauge and 20 gauge.

All shots are fired with the muzzle of the gun 40 yards from the target. Any commercially available choke tube may be used in the 12 gauge Hunter Class. In the open classes any choke tube may be used.

The barrel with the choke tube installed may not exceed 32" and any type of sight may be used. Most shooters use a scope.

Hunter guns may not have any alterations or improvements made to the barrel.

Targets are scored by counting the number of pellets in the red 3" circle that do not break the black line that surrounds it.

We sit on "low boy" stools and no mechanical rest is allowed.

Those are pretty much the rules, pretty simple and straight forward.

These shoots are a test of ammo, chokes, barrels, marksmanship and endurance.

It's fun and you meet a lot of nice folks along the way.

Again, it would be great to see you and everyone here at OG out to the shoots.

Thanks,
Clark

Thanks for the info Clark. I can understand why everyone chooses the hevi 13 #6s, they are pretty amazing. I walloped my bird this year with that load. There isn't any shoots in my area for the month of June, maybe next month. I think it would be a neat and challenging experience. I'll get that ssx shooting for me and maybe I'll give er a try.
