Overchoking?

Are their any tell tale signs that you might be overchoking or do you just have to run a less constrictive choke and compre the results?

I've seen irradict poi, the reason given to me was that the wad was tumbling before it opened due to bring constructed to much by the choke

In my experience you get a very spotty pattern with large holes in it from overchoking.

It would nice to see some pictures of overchoked patterns . Does anybody have any ?

Alot of things come into play.  The lay out of some chokes let you run a smaller choke then others ones.  Now I know one big thing is the pattern will walk around on the paper.  Alot of times you not see it when you shot 40 yards.  If you shoot 20 to 25 you see it move.  Now like they said above you can see spots of shot.  It will have clusters of shot.  You get it choked the way it should it should be some what even.  Now this may take a few shots to see.

Thanks for the replies, I have had some spotty patterns however when I switched ammo those cleared up, just not getting the denser pattern I am looking for. My best results so far were with FC wad in pb #6, I have not tried the Fed #7 hw yet but I just need to get to a range and give it a whirl, hevi 13's were horrible with 3 different chokes so I think my gun just doesnt like em.

You should see good numbers with the HV13.  What gun you have?
