I have been chasing the same bird for the past two weeks but he just wont do what I want him to. I had him at 80 yards strutting and gobbling with my wife but the hen that he has with him just wont cut him lose. Well, last Thursday, I decided to try to locate a different bird and I did but he roosts right on the creek and he always pitches down on the other side. This bird had me frustrated cause he wont gobble at all in the mornings hardly. The area that I have been hunting has been too wet for the tractors to get in and cut so the birds have not been around like they have been in the past. I had the bright idea yesterday, to take a riding mower in there and just cut what I could in hopes of drawing in some birds. I ended up getting about 3 acres cut before lunch yesterday. I got in their this morning and hooted.......nothing. I was very disgusted about there being no birds but also my thermocell ran out of juice. I figured that if there wasnt birds there roosted, they would probably work their way towards the freshly cut grass, so I stuck Jake and LuLu out about 20 yards and found me a good comfortable tree to sink down in. I made a few soft clucks and yelps on my woodhaven red wasp and nothing. At 640, I did a flydown cackle and beat my wing real loud and he cut me off and wasnt but 75 yards at the most behind me in a tree. I never heard him pitch down and then I yelped softly and he rang my ears. He had pitched down and was 15 yards behind me. Ol boy walked right by me and when he hit the fresh cut grass, pfffftoooooooooooom, he blew up. At 15 yards I cut real hard and he gobbled in my face and then the Browning 12 gauge ended his note. I looked at my phone and it was 644, there was 3 maybe 4 minutes between first gobble and kill. I have called up a few and let others kill them but its my turn now.
