Can anyone give me an idea of what the internals look like in a Wrights choke? Do they have wad strippers in them?

Borden811

I ordered a No.3 for my SBE II. It should be here today. I'll let you know when it gets here, I'll post a pic if I can get a good one.

The Wright's chokes are non-ported with a crowned muzzle and a conical - parallel interior design.

There are 3 generations of most of the models and they are available with 3 different exit diameters. The #1 has an e.d. of .670, the #2 has an e.d. of .660 and the #3 has an e.d. of .650. (The parallel is approximately 1.3" long in the 3rd generation tubes.)

They are manufactured from ETD-150PH bar stock and treated with a black oxide finish and acid etched with identifying information.

I have pictures of the exterior on my site but none of the interior. You can take a look by clicking on the banner below this post.

Thanks,
Clark

Thanks, I am thinking of trying one out but I may go with the .670.

The Hevi 13 .667 works very well in mine but I am looking for a more even pattern in the 10 and 20 rings. Less margine for error. I shot the Pure Gold .670 but it looked like a wing shooting pattern so I was thinking that one of the reasons the Pure Gold was more open was the internals are a bit different from the Hevi 13. No wad grabbers or maybe longer parallel. I am not to sure but would like to find out. It may help with finding the right choke.

I also think that the IC .665 would be a slammer for a tight pattern at 40 in my gun and maybe a .670 IC would be the ticket.

Clark,
Thanks for the info. I am wandering if a choke constriction at .665 without the wad stripper in would give me more even #'s at 40 than the Hevi 13 .667. Or if a more open constriction with the wad strippers in will do this. I shot through a JH .668 and it is a close run with the .667 H 13.

Borden811

Yelpy, what gun are you shooting, and with what load?

SBEII with a 2oz load of TSS #7's, TSS duplex #7 x 8's and HW 15g/cc 2oz of #7's. They .667 works very good for all of them but would like to see a little more even in the 20" circle. When I get some pics I will post patterns up in the Pattern pics section.

With the Wright's I'd recommend the #2 with a .660 exit diameter for a more even distribution of your shot.

  :thanks: again Clark.

If I decide to try out the Wright's choke I will order the #2 from your site. If not I will be trying out the Hevi 13 .671 Extrema II choke.

Yelpy, I plan on shooting my No.3 later today. I can let you know what it does with factory loads if that's of any help at all to you?

Thet would be great! What length barrel do you shoot?

Borden811

26 inch bbl. I plan on running some heavy 7's and some winchester XR 6's through it, and maybe some winchester supreme lead 5's.

Borden811

Yelpy,
I made it to the range, but somehow forgot the winnchester ER 6's. Anyway, I shot the hevi 7's and the Winchester Supreme high velocity 5's. Here's the breakdown, with numbers from my Indian Creek .665 added for comparison.

Hevi 13 2.25 oz 7's (lot # 300325)  259     I.C  281

Hevi 13 2.25 oz 7's (lot # 300524)  244     I.C.  225

Winchester Supreme High velocity 2oz 5's  91, and 93.    I. C  84 and 81

All shots were from a deep clened barrel, and between each of those shots I ran a dry brush, then a patch soaked with hoppes, and then two more dry patches down the barrel. I did try shooting with the barrel dirty also, and the numbers weren't as good. Hopefully that helps you some.

Thanks!

The pattern from the Wrights choke looks more even than the IC and that is what I would like. I feel that is how a choke and load should perform. I am not saying that the IC isn't any good but I just like an even pattern.

I have heard that the IC will though some inconsistant patterns. That is the only thing that has kept me from buying one. I have shot the IC out of a 535 and the patterns had some reel tight spots in them also and was never the same.

I may order the Wright's from Clark today I am just not sure wich one my SBEII would pattern best with. I have tryed different brand chokes in .670 which was a waist of shot and I also have tryed chokes at .660. The .660 did better but my gun seems to like .665 to .668 constriction. Maybe it is just the internals that I don't know.

My Berettas have tight bores like your Benelli. The Wright's .660 patterns everything I have shot through it better than the .670.

Thanks Spur for the info.
