Is it just me or has Remington quality changed.  I compared a "older" (early 90's) Remington 870 Special Purpose to a newer model and fit and finish is not as good in my opinion. Additionally, the action on the older models are much smoother, even the steel "milling" process is not as good....oh well glad I've got some of the older models... :smiley-patriotic-flagwaver-an

Its not just on the 870 either, sadly it seems all there models (model 700, 11-87 etc) are a little lesser quality than in the good old days. I'm with you I buy my Remingtons used.

Yep, all there stuff seems to be going that way but the price it stays at a premium.

The smoothest 870 I have is the old special field....straight stock and short barrel...

I have to agree that quality has slipped.

I have a 700 getting re-barreled at this time because it came from the factory so crooked it was terrible.

I tend to keep my eyes peeled for the old school 870 wingmasters and  old school 870 and 11-87 Special purposes and tend to bring them home on occasion if I have the scratch and room in the safe.

I have traded a few at different times in the past when I had an itch for something else, and kick myself for that now and then when I think about how good of shape and well behaved they were.
You can tell a lot about a person by how they treat those who can do nothing for them or to them.

I've done the same...don't feel bad!!!
