Hey guys I have a buddy who is looking into buying the 870 Turkey/Predator combo gun and he was wondering how it patterns with the 20 in barrel? We would probally screw a .660 Jelly Head in it and he wants to shoot the Mag Blends. Any info on this is appreciated

my 21 inch barrel and 660 jh do not like the mag blends. It does like the heavy 327s though.

What kind of patterns does your Rem. 21"/Jellyhead .660 throw with those 2 ounce Hevi 7's, JT??

Those short barreled guns can be a "challenge" but he'll just never know until he tries, if he's set on that short barrel. Personally, I'd go for a 26" but to each his own.

I would shoot the SSX in that barrel based upon what I've seen over the years. I have a 21" barrel for an 870 that I try periodically as a part of evaluations of various products. I have "deep cleaned" it of course and I can certainly get turkey killing patterns with it, the best have always come from the SSX and standard #6 Hevi-13 loads.

I suspect that with the Magnum Blend shells and that barrel he'll get quite a jolt at the butt and comb of the stock and it will be loud. Those conditions can easily contribute to a flinch that can cause a miss in the turkey woods. It may also be very hard to get back on target, should he want or need a second shot.

Whatever he chooses, all my best to him this year.

Thanks,
Clark

I have that gun and if he's going to shoot mag blends I'd get the 665 jellyhead, 665 IC or, my personal favorite a 670 pure gold.

I was getting better patterns with the mote open chokes with the mag blends. I was getting 220's-230's with the IC and PG and the Mag Blends

thanks redleg exactly what I was looking for

So if he is leaning towards the mag blends what would be the preferred choke
