Ok I have been on this site and some others.  I have seen that the numbers are low with some guns.  Now this is with all brand chokes and all brand guns.   Gun and Choke combos that should be shooting.   This is guns in the north, south, east and west.   The only thing that is the same is the shells in most cases.

So lets keep up with lots numbers as you shoot.  See if the lots from last year are around or some of the new ones are bad to.

I don't have any numbers, but I shot a .675 SumToy in my 835 and I was shooting 3.5-2.25-6 Federal Flitecontrols, and got a very nice, even pattern at 30. The Federal wad looked good. No torn or missing petals.
I would recommend the .675 SumToy in your 835.
Hoping to pattern next Friday, so I should have 40 yard numbers and pics.

It is not the lead shells.  The Fed HW and the Win Ex-Rang looks good.  The HV-13 stuff is the stuff that is all over the place.  I see high numbers and low numbers  from all kind of guns and diffrent chokes.    Just was looking to try to pin point the lot numbers that have been bad.   That way you will not pay all that money for the junk ones.

I was trying to figure why alot of folks was doing the hand loads and see why now.  With them going up and the numbers going down with some of them I think it is time to test the lead stuff.

I for one would like to hear some about those Lot#'s.  I'm getting ready to buy a few boxes of the Hevi-13 and do some patterning with my 835. This maybe just the thread to make me stay with lead and stay away for Hevi-13. I'm brand new to the HV stuff and would aleast like to give it a fair shake so to speak before I make a decision on it.

Thanks for this tip.  To be honest, never thought about the shell changing from year to year, or lots.  Thought once I found a brand and model, thought I had it...

Thanks Sumtoy for wanting to get to the bottom of this. It would be great to sort out the inconsistency of Hevi shot.

I'm new to shooting Hevi. I just bought 3 boxes of 3.5 #7 and hopefully gonnna shoot some patterns tomorrow. The lot number on the boxes I picked up at Cabelas is 300524. I'll be shooting a Supernova, 24" barrel with jellyhead 660 (SBEII choke)

I hope I didn't waste $66. Great patterns are awesome but not if they don't have the energy to get the job done if you misjudge yardage a bit past your 40 yd limit.

I would've bought some extended range 6's if they were sold in boxes of 5 but I don't have a ton of cash to be playin' around with various shells.

#7
Here's the lot#'s from my 3.5" 2.25oz #7's bought in may 2011, { 300514}. With a SBEII and .665 final strut i got 293,280,282 with the final strut .660- 280 and the final strut .655- 240.Keep in mind my SBEII  has never put up big numbers with any choke load combo so I would say that this is a good lot number. for some reason i'm thinking the problem was in the 300400 numbers but i could be wrong.

One shell from my 3 1/2" - 2 1/4oz - #7s  lot 390755 shot a pretty impressive 361 through Mossy & JH 690. Unless it was a fluke those should do well. Have a box of 380754 I'll shoot first pretth day.

I just bought the last 5 boxes of 3 inch Hevi #7's that my local dealer had in the 2010 loads (Lot #200778).  They have been the best patterning of the the 3" loads for me.   :OGturkeyhead:

My boxes have the same lot number as yours. I bet I know where you got yours from, and your right, they do shoot really great patterns.

ILIKEHEVI-13

Well I got 357 in a 10" with a new Pure Gold .670 out of my 835 last year with the very first shot through the choke with the 3.5" Hevi-13 #7's.  But I have yet to even come close to that number shooting the other few shots I have through the tube.  The Pure Gold simply will not shoot with the consistency of the .676 Star Dot.  It still shoots some nice even patterns though.  What surprised me is that the Pure Gold would not shoot the Hevi-13 #6 loads at all.  And others claim to have good luck with this choke and the #6 loads.  The best lot # I found so far with the 3.5" Hevi-13 #7 loads was 300325 last year out of the Star Dot choke with 360 in a 10".

300324's are good as well. That's the best I've found. Bought up all that I could find on the shelf at Mack's.
