Plain barrel 870 sight options

The Remington 870 that I have has a plain 18" barrel, no VR, with just a single silver bead at the muzzle. I'd like to upgrade the sight without adding a scope if I can find a sight that will work well.
From what I can find my options are limited to drilling out the old bead, threading it and installing a new fiber optic bead or putting one of those snap on fiber optic sights on the barrel.
I'm waiting on my Hevi-13 #7 shells to get here so I don't know how it  patterns as far as POA and POI.
What do you guys recommend as a sight option?

Your options are limited without gunsmith work. I would try to find a used 26" VR barrel.

You can drill & tap the receiver for a FastFire type sight or scope base. Maybe your POI will be on and you won't have to worry about doing anything.

That's what I'm hoping for.

I think your going to need a gunsmith or a VR tube if the POA/POI are off. My mossy shoots true to the bead with the factory flush choke tube. Once I put aftermarket chokes in it all bets are off. Good luck.

There's a really easy fix to your problem. It's done very often to those plain barrels and provides you with fully windage and elevation adjustable, all metal sights with fiber optics plus Tritium at a very reasonable price as well.

How are the front and rear sights attached to the barrel? Please give me a little more info. I Googled them but that didn't give me answers.

There are 2 methods that most folks use. They are designed so that you can drill and tap your barrel and install with the provided hardware. It's a pretty easy and pretty quick installation process. We also have folks who just use JB Weld to glue them on. Either way seems to work very well.

I mount them both on the barrel and put them no more than 15" apart. It gives you a much better sight picture and you never have to worry about what happens when you remove your barrel.

Most people use the notch sight but it also includes a ghost ring if you like those.
That Tritium combined with fiber optics really shows up well in any light.
