Can anyone make a recommendation for me ? I'm trying to decide on a new gun for turkey and I've narrowed it down to the Mossberg Tactical turkey series.... So which is better the 535 or the 835 ?

Is there any real difference between the performance of these two guns ?

The 835 is only about $60 more.... but is it worth it ?

Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks !!

835 without a doubt. The overbored barrel will give you great patterns. You can find many pattern pictures on the site to back that up.

835 here too.  A proven performer.  I would also imagine finding extra barrels (if you wanted a multi purpose gun) new or used would be easier due to the  amount of 835's out there.

CASH

A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands, love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper; his hands remember the rifle.

CASH is right. Either gun can and will kill birds, but you as a shooter have to find the right shell and choke combo that will give you a minimum of 100 evenly spaced pellets in a 10" circle at 40 yards.
A good place to start with the 500 is a Jellyhead .660. If you can afford it, pair this up with Hevi-13 3", 2 oz, #6 shot. If you choose lead, than Winchester supreme HV, or XX magnums will work well.
If you shoot the 835, I would go with a Pure Gold .670, or a SumToy .675.
The big bore 835's like to eat, so I would go with the 3.5" shells in either lead or Hevi-13. Some guys like the Jellyhead .690's as well.
Good luck with whatever gun you choose! :icon_thumright:

If it shoots to POA don't worry with optics. Mine shot high and I couldn't bring it down enough with the sights so I went with a Game Reaper mount and Simmons 4X Pro Diamond. Used plenty of Loctite and haven't had a problem with anything coming loose from the recoil. I've had these scopes on other 835's in the past with no problems out of any of them. Don't worry about the 4x magnification. I've shot birds as close as ten yards with it and the diamond reticle makes for a great aiming point.

I'm thinking red dot .... anybody have any experience with this "TRU TG8030MC2 RED DOT 42MM RD/GRN CAMO" ??

I have not had any luck with truglos. If it were me, I would go with a Bushnell Trophy red dot, or Mueller Quick Shot.
