Roe VS Wade - 39 years and...

Last week marked the 39th anniversary of the Roe vs Wade decision that legalized abortion in the United States.  Over that period of time, there have been over 48 million abortions performed in the United States alone.
To "honor" this anniversary, the president of the United States gave a speech to include the text below.  Particularly distressing was the last sentence:

"As we mark the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we must remember that this Supreme Court decision not only protects a woman's health and reproductive freedom, but also affirms a broader principle: that government should not intrude on private family matters," Obama said. "I remain committed to protecting a woman's right to choose and this fundamental constitutional right.

"While this is a sensitive and often divisive issue -- no matter what our views, we must stay united in our determination to prevent unintended pregnancies, support pregnant woman and mothers, reduce the need for abortion, encourage healthy relationships, and promote adoption," Obama said.

"And as we remember this historic anniversary, we must also continue our efforts to ensure that our daughters have the same rights, freedoms, and opportunities as our sons to fulfill their dreams."

I guess this should not be surprising given past quotes like:

"I've got daughters. Nine years old and six years old. First of all, I'm gonna teach them about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don't want them PUNISHED with a baby." ? Barack Obama

Call me old fashioned, but there used to be a thing called RESPONSIBILITY that outweighed inconvenience.  Obviously ROE V WADE occurred before 2008.  That said, I am not blaming the death of over 48 million babies on our current president... for those who might assume that to be so.  However, I do find it disturbing that a sitting president would make such comments, and would, regardless of whether there was a "D" or an "R" after their name in parenthesis.  I make no claims or guarantees that any of the 4 remaining GOP candidates would do any better or different, though I hope each of them would.

If the statements above don't bother you, please, carry on and have a nice day.  However, if you find the death of 48 million + babies for the sake of fullfilling the dreams of their parents disturbing, you can voice your concerns.  Below is a link to the Manhattan Declaration.  This is a declaration that voices a belief in the importance of life, marriage and traditional family values.  Additional information is available on their website about current issues regarding such values.

Thanks for the post, and I share your passion.
This generation will not accept responsibility for their actions, but the Bible teaches that God will not hold those guiltless who shed innocent blood. Most abortions are not due to rape or incest, but due to lack of taking responsiblity and understanding the consequences of having sex outside of marriage.

My wife works in the Department of Health as a social worker, and she had to consul a young teen age girl who wanted to have an obortion. Her mother was pushing for this. The irony of the issue was that later that day my wife and I were scheduled to go see a fertility doctor, as we have been trying for 3 years without succes to get pregnant. Our doctor is in Memphis. The young girl was going that same day to Memphis to terminate her pregnancy. My wife played a role in turning that young girls heart and the mother's to another route, and today, she has a beautiful baby boy and love him to death. I LOVE MY WIFE! Due to laws, she can not say "you can't or don't need to have an abortion", so she has to be reall careful. She was really happy that the baby got the opportunity to live, and she was able to help get them started on a health program to ensure he gets the proper start.

Yeah its too sad that this has to happen, I just saw a bumper sticker that I think sums this up fairly well

It is a poverty that a child must die so you can live as you wish
