I have been using the 3" mag blends out of my 23" 870 SM
and a Rhino .660. I get a good pattern and have killed a few with
this set up but missed some too. I like the Mag Blends but not sure I am using
the right choke. Should I open it up to like a 665 or more?

Depends on what your patterns look like....if they are blown with lots of larger than turkey head size holes in them, then you need to open it up.  Otherwise, you just plain missed! :newmascot:

It's really more about the internal design (geometry) of the choke than the exit diameter. For example, I get good patterns with the SSX with a .643 e.d., a Wright's #3 with a .650 e.d. and a Hevi-13 choke with a .662 e.d. All pretty different exit diameters but all do well because of their designs.

Clark is 100% correct. Post a pattern and we should be able to tell u if it's too tight. IMO a .660 Rhino should be correct.

Got a friend that is knocking out the birds with the Primos JH .665 with the 3" mag blends in an 870 SM with 26" barrel.  Good Luck!

I got a very even 180 in 10" at 40 Yards with 3" MB in my 28" 870 at 60 Degrees.  A nice even 12"-13" pattern too.

Lawrence Boy,

Do you have a set of sights on your gun, to insure your POA and POI are the same? Just asking cause you said you hit some and missed some.

I had a set of Tru Glo and took them off after missing a couple
so now I just use the double beed
I checked my POA and POI and both are fine
My misses where a result of not staying down on the gun
