I took this deer Thursday morning about 7:15. There was a button buck feeding in the field and he kept looking up repeatedly off to the right and behind my stand. After a few minutes the button buck started to quickly head for the other end of the field and at the same time I heard the sound of a deer running through the leaves from behind my stand headed in my direction. This buck ran practically right under my stand, grunted at the button buck and headed for the woods. I pulled up my gun, grunted to stop him and shot just before he went in the woods. He ran in the woods and piled up after about 30 yards. The even cooler thing about this story is that about 2 days before gun season started I went out the back door of my house to head for work and this buck was standing about 50 yards away in my back yard. He turned and headed back into the woods toward my Grandparents farm. I ended up killing him about a quarter mile away on my parents farm.

Thanks everybody. Yah, I like the darker colored antlers to. In this area two cousins of mine and me hunt on a couple family owned farms and pretty well every buck that has been killed off this land has the darker colored rack like this deer did. What causes that antler coloration? Does it have to do with diet, genetics, or something else?
