Duck call materials

I have been turning wood duck calls for some time.  In the last several months I started turning calls out of acrylic.  I like the material but have noticed several other materials offered in some of the catalogs.  My question is, can other materials such as acrylic acetate, polys, etc be used to turn calls?  I am not familiar with any of these products.  One of the local supplier actually carrys more of these materials than acrylic.

Can anyone offer me some advise on products other than acrylic?

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Probably the best source for your questions that I can think of is Pappy. He has made calls out of all kinds of stuff including your man made materials. Send him a PM. He's more than helpful on answering questions.

you can actually use just about anything to turn a duck call. But, when it comes to turning the insert you had best stay with an acrylic or resin acrylic (Methyl methacrylate), unless you have some nice hard wood to use. You can use Delrin, a product made by dupont, which is a near teflon type material, with a rubber compound added for resilience against temp changes, I have used a resin plastic for both but you have to be careful about gouging into the material as it will chip out bad, you need sharp chisels, and light passes for all acrylic. Using unusual materials like bone or antler or ivory is a blast, they create super eye candy....there is a material called faux ivory which is a soft resin acrylic, you can also pour your own resin in a two part mix. Just jump in and experiment, you'll soon find that the choices are endless and the possibilities are only limited to your imagination..... pappy

That's what I love about Pappy. He always sounds so happy when he's talking about turning calls.......especially duck calls. He reminds me of the happy hippie with the afro that use to paint on ABC years ago.

Let's just put a happy tree here......
