Im confused as to why anyone would choose to shoot bismuth at a turkey? Its less dense than lead(9.6g/cc). Seems like lead would be a more efficient, and cheaper, tool for the job.

Some places require non toxic loads, Federal lands, certain WMA's and the state of California!

I would start with Hevi shot if you do not want to spend the money on TSS.

I was just asking! Hell you guys acting like I committed a crime but, if you don't have plenty of TSS you may be paying a tremendous price for it. Hell for the price HEVI 13 #7 was as good! Unless you are some of those 100 yard shooters! If you are not much sport. The calls must not be any good as well.

Well you escalated that quickly and for no reason. Good work.
Go buy some Hevi 12 7s. They are making it again. Bismuth is a poor choice.

I agree with both of you...  Given the choice, lead is more dense, easier to pattern, and does not generally shatter (as some bismuth loads can do).  If you can shoot lead legally, it is a better choice than Bismuth.  Hevi-shot and TSS are better choices than either.

But there are areas, and states that require non-toxic shot...

My experience of shooting bismuth for waterfowl, is that it is difficult to get tight patterns, and for as few shots fired for turkey, Hevi-Shot is vastly superior to Bismuth...  TSS superior to both, but you get to pay the price for it.

Density is part of the equation, but so is hardness.  It is my understanding that tin must be added to Bismuth, or it shatters (and I have seen evidence of shattered pellets in harvested waterfowl).  Hevi-Shot and TSS, and such is both dense and hard, which makes it far easier to obtain tight patterns with more down-range energy than lead, and even more so than with Bismuth.
Did I do that?

Fly fishermen are born honest, but they get over it.
