Was out before the crack Friday morning, taking my flintlock for a walk.

Heard some birds flying down a few hundred yards down the ridgetop from me.  Sounded like typical hen flydown cackles.

Just a bit later, at least one tom lit off 4 or 5 times over the course of 15 or 20 minutes.  Muffled by the snow cover.  But the most wonderful sound in nature, nonetheless.

The good Lord ain't made a gobbler I can't kill.  I just gotta be there at the right time.....  on the day he wants to die.

We should all know by now that turkeys strut and gobble the entire year, there is no down time yes less activity but still year-round. I have days in the fall that would rival springtime as the gobblers' merge into Winter Flocks and they sort their social order out. Now gobbling is one thing, but if we are talking actual Breeding Ritual then more by locale.

Yep.

But, I'm guessing they are sorta tuning up for the ritual.  It's time.  Our birds hens COULD be beginning to lay within a month or so.
