Spur Color

I have noticed that some of the Turkey's I've killed have Solid black spurs, from Tip to leg and Some of them have spurs that are a much lighter almost pinkish brown except for the tips which are black.

I don't see any correlation between size or length of the spurs, or hunting location as I have examples from all of my options. I will say more are solid black, but I have multiple that are the other way.

Just curious if anyone knows why.

Dr. Chamberlain: "The core of the spur is bone that is covered with keratin and varies in color from black, pink or pale white.

So I guess it's just dependent on keratin levels in each particular bird.
