Has anyone else noticed the inordinate number of birds being killed with trumpets this year? Cat's out of the bag!!

I think there's two things going on:
1. Social media like Pinhoti showing trumpet usage and how talking about how effective and underutilized have made it sort of fad like.
2. I think you're probably seeing several people claim kills with the use of a trumpet who aren't actually using it. It's not as easy to learn and I feel there's a lot of people out there who aren't willing to put in the time and effort, but want to feel "included".
Looking to buy Allen Dunfee scratch boxes.

I disagree, i see lots of people putting in the time to learn to use a trumpet. It's not as hard as everyone might time in learning to use one. Do you have to sound perfect on one NO, but you do need to sound somewhat like a turkey.  I will agree you do need to practice, practice to become efficient in using one of these instruments. It also doesn't hurt to have a good sounding trumpet from a quality builder who has been making them for a long time... I have put in the time and i'm still learning how to become better at playing one of these trumpets.  So i call it people wanting to learn more about using one and being successful with using one in killing a gobbler. GOOD LUCK to all who want to learn how to use one of these trumpets.

noisy box call that seems to sound like a flock of juvenile hens pecking their way through a wheat field

Knowing human nature there may be some of your point #2 going on. But there are people who will take practicing serious and get good enough their first year to be effective

I have a buddy that got a wingbone mid Sept. practiced hard and clucked in 2 fall turkeys in mid Oct.
This was in 2015 before the current  trumpet explosion

I don't disagree that there are some. I am one of those driving around everyday with a trumpet in my hand. But I assumed the op was talking about social media posts and I believe a lot of that is "trying to fit in"..
