Turkey Abnormality

Never seen this. It looks like he has a degenerative condition or an injury when he was a yungin. Any thoughts.

Sounds absurd but I killed a gobbler back in the early 90's that had a three quarters diameter limb sticking through his chest.  It was a white oak piece that was just under the skin and sticking out about 15" on each side.  It was all calloused around the stick.  I didn't see it until I went over to him.  No infection or anything.

I've found all sorts of things, cysts, broken bones, puncher wounds, and more.

I shot a gobbler a few seasons ago that his left spur curved sharply back around to the side like a "J"

I have seen that on a turkey before, pretty similar spot too. My theory is the bird broke it's keel bone at some point. Could have been born with it tbo. I have also seen it on ruffed Grouse and quail. Maybe a duck too but not sure.

Turkeys, and other wild birds can live a tough life. Lots of stuff can happen to t hem and there is no help.

Just a guess, but I'd say an injury at some point.   They live a rough life.

I would guess old wound also. I killed one way back that had a piece of a stick buried as deep as it could be. The stick was about 2" long covered in scar tissue and the bone had started growing around it.
