For those of you running the Alps grand slam, how is the sizing difference between the standard and the XL? On their website it lists a waist size only. I am 6'3 245 with a 36" waist. Per their website, it seems as thought the standard size will fit me but I wanted to see if anyone had any input as far as the adjustability on the upper body of the vest. Thanks!

RiverBuck

Standard will work fine for you. I'm 6' 205 and have the adjustments maxed out on its smallest size.

Im 6' 215lbs and 36" waist size. Standard cinched all to way down is slightly loose. You should be fine with the standard size.

Thanks chief! How are the magnets on the seat working out for you guys? Seems like that was the only hang up with this vest. It checked all the boxes for me so I ordered it

Magnets are ok...but just ok. If im walking through thick brush its probably going to knock the pad off.

The magnets do not work for me. I did the speed seat mod on mine. I try to keep mine buckled up when I'm on the move.

I received my alps grand slam today. I really like the vest, especially with the kick stand removed. Do any of you guys that wear this vest find it so be noisy? Seems like it makes quit a bit of noise. Especially the outer shell of the vest.

I run the grand slam and I would highly recommend the speed seat mod. It wasn't hard to do and man did it make a world of difference. Prior to the mod I agree that the magnets were just OK and I was always having a hard time finding the buckles quickly when I got up to make a move. I did get the XL and I have that thing cinched down pretty tight. I had to cut off a ton of the adjustment straps because I had too much excess flapping around. I'm 6'3" 275 with a 40 inch waist. The standard size should fit the vast majority of people.

I'm 6'4" 230 ish and I have the bigger one.  It's plenty big! Really too big! I wish I would have went with the standard size.  The magnets on mine are a joke. My vest is super quiet. Never noticed it being loud.  I'm really anal about things like that too.  Also I just flip my seat under when slipping around.
This vest is ok However I don't just love this vest.  I will do away with it when i find one that I fall in love with.

Not sure if mine is a newer model or not. Mine dosnt have the NWTF logo on it. Either way I think this one is going back and I'll give the Tidewe a try

Yes I found mine to noisy for me. It was coming from the bottom of vest, where the hard fabric is. Im 5'10 170lbs and it is slightly big all the way cinched down. That hard fabric would slide left and right slightly when walking due to the looseness, and create a friction noise on the fabric it was rubbing on.

I got some super soft fabric and sewed it on that hard patches by hand. It helped ALOT!

I got my tidewe vest the other day. Don't get me wrong, the grand slam is a real nice vest but the tidewe will be getting the nod. More storage options and much quieter than the grand slam. It just felt better overall as well as the price being right!

RiverBuck

Funny how this turned into a tidewe infomercial.
I also don't find the grand slam noisy... my north mountain gear leafy suit makes more noise than the vest.

Just comparing two vests that got good reviews!
