Rookie Mistake

Well I done hosed up today. I took my wife and daughter huntingbat our" triple spot" today. Turkeys have not been acting right here, henned up and generally goofy, so I told my wife to shoot a Tom if it came in. Usually it's the daughters first shot, but mom has never killed a Tom and passed a good shot on oneso the daughter could get it. The wife has hunted hard every day and is an outstanding human being. She has had a rough year too, dad passed. So the daughter and I nominated her to shoot first. Theyboth like my old SKB7300 20 pump, but my wife let the daughter take it, first mistake. I gave her my  Stoeger 3020 with a sum toy choke and ff2, second mistake. Then I proceeded to put the decoys too close, mistake #3. As yo can suspect, I actually called in the boss and she shaved his neck at ten yards. Bird ran away fine, even came back out 4 hours later. She is heartbroken and mortified. I have to take the egg on my face as I set her up to fail. Just venting all my stupidity here sowe can all get a laugh. Still a good day with my girls though. Good luck and God bless. Al Baker

I hate that for y'all, but she will enjoy standing on a neck even more.

Glad to hear the bird is fine! Want them either stone dead or no worse for wear. Keep at it!

Pattern too tight at that range?  It happens but still sounds like a good time with the family

It happens bro. Sucks, but it does happen. Hang in there!!

Sent from deep in the woods where the critters roam.

Sorry she missed , but look at the memories you all made ....

Tom007

So sorry to hear about your dad. Hey, you will get him. The memories will last for ever. We all know that during that shot moment, all her worries went away. That's why we do this. Sharing with family makes it even better. Good luck.

Sorry she missed, but time in the turkey woods with family still sounds like a successful hunt.
