What's a guy to do.

Hunting here in PA can be very frustrating. First of all the bird population in my area has to be down 50% if not more. Second of all, I hunt all public land. Second day of season,at 70 yards had bird gobbling in tree at 70 yards away. I can see the bird in the tree,so I didn't want to make any calls until the bird flew down. All of a sudden I heard a guy crow call to the bird, then he was cranking on a box call, the bird never gobbled. Two minutes later the bird flew over my head. Got up sat on a log to see if anyone would come by. The guy comes over and said, did u hear anything, I said yeah the bird you chased away flew over my head. He also said that he saw another truck park their and that he figured someone was there.
Third day.
Had a bird strutting up a road to me at 100 yards when 2 guys walkin on me and chased the bird. They said they thought I was a real hen. I told them that you can't walk up on turkeys and it's illegal. I left, walked about 1 mile away from them and started working another bird. I looked to my right same 2 guys stalking the bird.
WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE SAID TO THEM.

I hear your frustration brother.  I have taken to only hunting private land where I know I am the only hunter or hunting with the land owner.  You Can't fix Stupid.  Hope your season improves

Nothing. It sucks but its public land. Either adapt and deal with it or find you some private to lease or buy. Hate to put it like that but it is what it is and is not gonna get better. There are post like this every year. I would not do that to another hunter but the ranks of turkey hunters have exploded. Use to be a very few slob hunters in the sport but now that has changed. Just stick in there and it will work out. Good luck.

I would of ask them , WHAT the hell are you guys thinking .. but people like that are not real turkey hunters , they should of known the difference in you calling and real hen on the first bird. Good luck , most of the time a lot of these people will only hunt couple weekends , so keep trying . Good luck ...

Weekend warriors are out every day of the week now because of bat stew flu.

Like others said not much you can do unless you figure out how not to hunt public..
From all that you said I'm surprised more guys don't get accidentally shot...Be safe and good luck...

Yup, public ground is tough. Not undoable, but tough. Hang in there my friend. It will work out.

I'm a state game land hunter also, fortunately there are many places you can hunt in Penns woods. I usually get up earlier , and walk farther if it's going to be heavy hunter pressure , like it has been lately, or try later in the morning , when most guys bail. After the first 2 weeks are over , you can hunt all day, so go out in the afternoon. Hope this helps, but remember," You can't fix stupid". Good luck !

I  have been hiking in 2 to 2 1/2 miles in but still have guys on me. I think the lack of birds around has alot to do withit also.

I have seen more people out on public ground this year, even on week days. I do think the Covid thing has a lot to do with it. Some tools hears it's turkey season and he's off work so he decides to go give it try.

I can tell you what I did...

Had some guys pull in behind me, later in the morning....

I hear an answer, and then things go quiet, and then I can hear these guys tooling around.  I walk back down to the truck, and they walk up to me...

"We say your truck and heard you calling...  We are pig hunting and looking for sign.  Did we ruin your hunt?"

I was friendly back, and said, "unfortunately you did."

I then mentioned that there were a lot more hunters out than usual, and most places I would go were already taken, and that "I" would not want to ruin someone else's hunt...

The conversation actually remained friendly...  I still have doubts that they will not do the same exact thing in the future.

Bottom line, someone starting off might be ignorant and change their ways if politely corrected...  Most people know exactly what they are doing, and will keep doing it whether you are rude or friendly to them....  Less likely to change if you are rude, and more likely to find a flat tire on your vehicle if they see it parked as they are driving by next time you are sharing the same woods with them....
Did I do that?
