First Cancellation for 2020???

I thought I would share some information.  It seems that 2020 Spring Turkey hunting has taken its first victim due to the Coronavirus.  I was PM'ing someone, yesterday afternoon, sharing some information about hunting the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation near Kyle, SD and the individual sent me a PM last night that said he had JUST received a phone call stating that Spring Turkey season had been cancelled on the Reservation.  It seems that the Oglala Sioux Tribal Council has voted to terminate the Spring Turkey hunting season aboard the Reservation.  I'm sure this doesn't impact the public land in the Black Hills area but...  If you are heading out for a hunt this spring, you may want to make some last minute phone calls before driving or flying hundreds or thousands of miles.  Good Luck, Safe Travels and Good Health to ALL this Spring!

I've had 2 cancellations already from clients that were going to fly in next week for the opener on the 21st.

MAYBE an opportunity for a Texas Rio hunt?????  Wish I was closer (1300 miles), I've always wanted to hunt Texas.

JMO, but it wouldn`t surprise me if more and more folks over time aren`t in a mood to travel much.

The Winnebago Tribe in Nebraska also canceled their 2020 season to non-tribal members and began issuing refunds for those that purchased reservation permits.

It's a shame they couldn't drive or find a work-around to flying. But...not flying is probably the responsible thing to do at this time. Apologies to those in the commercial air travel industry.

Agree it's words you never care to hear. canceled.

Thanks for the update, just talked to my friend yesterday that was going to Standing Rock. As of that time he didn't say anything but that could have changed by now. Will have to give him a call.

Matter of time until they start restricting domestic flights and people plans really get messed up.

Just think once state and Federal workers start getting sent home....that'll shut down a lot of campgrounds and such that we turkey hunters rely on to travel.

Mmmmmmm. Sounds like those reservations will prime for the picking next spring!

I cancelled my Georgia trip.  Plant is figuring out how to get us to work from home.
Currently, Dad has influenza A and my hunting buddy's Dad is in the hospital with a BAD heart attack.
That on top of Corona Virus we decided to stay home this year.
No trees were hurt in the sending of this message, however a large number of electrons were highly inconvenienced.

I sure hope that state wildlife departments don't follow the lead of some of the tribes and start cancelling seasons.  I don't think they will.  But then again, two weeks ago I would never have thought that virtually all of the sporting events in America would be canceled or postponed.  Did you ever think you would see a time in our country when March Madness would not be played?
