I just picked this up today at a pawn shop and have a few questions.
First its really its a home defense gun but I may decide to hunt with it just for kicks.
Anyone have advice for me for a choke and shot? Its an 18 1/2" barrel .
Ive never had a chrome lined barrel so any advise on that would be good too.
I did inspect the barrel and it looks pretty good other than it needs cleaning.
Over all I think its a sweet rig . My first Weatherby

I would thoroughly clean the bore. Chrome-lined bores can appear to be clean when in fact they are quite dirty. I recommend  the process I call "Deep Cleaning". https://allaboutshooting.com/blogs/blog/98772615-deep-cleaning-a-shotgun-barrel

You will come to love that chrome-lined bore, since once it's deep cleaned, just routine cleaning will keep it in good shape. Just never use any abrasive products in that bore and you will be fine.

Your gun uses Mobil-Chokes and there are many good choices. I have one of the very earlt Briley rifled chokes that works exceptionally well in short barrelled shotguns. The GSX Turkey Choke is often overlooked but it would do a good job in that gun with some #6 shot WLB shells or some #6 shot Hevi-13 shells.

I hope you have fun with your new gun.

Thanks,
Clark

Great. Chrome-lined barrels are very easy to maintain. Best of luck with that shotgun. It should be very handy, in the woods or as a home defense shotgun. There are several good home defense loads that you may want to take a look at for your gun.
If you go to my blog and search "home defense" you'll find evaluations of several good loads.
Thanks,
Clark

will do Clark . One more question .
This came from the Weatherby choke info page and I think something is incorrect here.
The choke on mine has 5 notches and measure about .729-.730 (best i can tell with starrett calipers)
making it a Cylinder choke right? I dont think Weatherby has their chart right. everywhere else I look says 5 notches is cylinder not skeet

IIII   Improved Cylinder
IIIII   Skeet

I agree, .729 would be, at least should be, cylinder bore. I have however, over the years, seen many chokes marked improperly. Your measurements are a very good idea and let you know what you really have.
Thanks,
Clark

Just to follow up on this gun . I finally got around to shooting it today.
Shot some dove loads and a few OO buck .  Then I screwed on a gobblestopper extreme .665 per Clarks recommendation.
I didnt do a true pattern test but at 25 yards using Long beards #5 1 3/4  3" loads  it put all of the shots in the bottom of a Clorox jug. I guess about a 7" pattern very tight and even.
This would be the perfect blind gun i think . Short enough to maneuver easy , black, and patterns well .
