I've killed a few in the evenings over the years and generally I have found that in the woods, if he responds, I kill him. In a field though, they generally just strut until they fly up. Like was said early, I try to set up 30 plus yards out of the field in hopes he comes looking for the hen.

As far as time, I killed two birds a few years back that I had to really focus on the beads it was already so dim lighting.

I wish I had a tag left. A bird has never got under my skin like this one. If I had a tag id be taking off. but since I'm trying to fill my fiancés last tag and she cant take off work my hands are tied. He's killable we just need to be there first light. And we cant hunt until the last day of the season Sunday.

JK....hope you get him

The birds never came out last night, stayed 40 to 80 yards behind us gobbling back and forth. Sundays the last day so we will give'r hell. Cant convince the fiancé to take off work to try them before then unfortunately
Well after working him a couple hours my uncle and I got in tight along a pipeline. He was out there about 75 yards. Let's just say he came in to about 40-50 yards, a shot was fired and he lived to gobble another day. Had good time though!
I like my turkey well peppered

THAT HURTS......but like you said a good time none the less. Keep at it
