Has anyone tried taking the paint off of their decoys heads and having their taxidermist repaint them.

Is there a certain "look" you are wanting? I have "re-painted" mine to match a color scheme I use. Just wondering what outcome you are looking for?

Not going for a certain look, just trying to see if (Yourself/Taxidermist) can make improve the look.

Find the look you are looking for, I recommend DSD, go to Walmart and get their acrylic paint and paint them yourself.  You can find the paint in their hobby section. Pick up a few small brushes, right there at the paint, also.

I used to repaint mine every year when all there was were the cheap foam ones, seemed to work pretty well. I just used whatever paint was around, probably acrylic, and tried to match it to other good looking decoys i had around. The good thing about those decoys was you could change the paint on the head and make a Tom from a hen or vice versa. A little harder to do that these days with how realistic decoys are.

Clear coat the eyes with the wife's fingernail polish. Adds a bit more touch of realism. I've painted several with house paint and hobby paint. Gives ya something to do on a rainy weekend.
