Went turkey huntin Sunday and had a very weird hunt. First there was no gobbling. We could see turkeys but they just wouldn't gobble. We walked right into a struttin gobbler with several hens. After a few calls the hens took him off so we moved to get in front of them. We sat up and my first calls were cutt off by his gobble. I could hear him spittin and drummin hard. The next time he gobbles he is across a paved road with 6 hens, right out in the middle of nowhere. Then about 2:00 pm the turkeys started gobbling. Joey was hunting with Josh, the guy we were hunting with, they had set up on some turkeys and had put my hen decoy out. After about 10 minutes of calling all of a sudden an Eagle flew down and hit my decoy, grabbed it by the neck and started to fly off with it. It was then it realized the decoy wasn't alive and dropped it. Josh got video of the eagle flying off but didn't get the hit on the decoy. If he hadn't dropped about 15 F bombs in the video I would post it. Then they move to another ridge and get 3 turkeys to gobble back all the way across the valley ~ 500 yards away. Joey made them gobble a few times and then they flew the valley and landed about 80 yards away. They were standing out in the middle of the open with no cover so they just hit the ground. Josh stuck the decoy in front of his face and Joey yelped at them. They came to within arms reach of them laying on the ground. They were 3 Jakes and they gobbled and strutted right next to Josh and Joey. That was a funny video as well but potty mouth Josh threw a few more bombs in the mix.
I was set up in the same area where I killed the big spurred turkey. I called a few times and finally got a hen to answer. 2 minutes later she was standing 5 steps to my left. Then she proceeds to take a few steps and lays down. I was thinking she had a nest then I see some dust fly up. She had laid down and started dusting within 8 steps of me for 30 minutes. I had a gobbler come into view about 125 yards and for the first time in a long time I had no clue what to do. Do I call and spook the hen next to me or do I not call and have the gobbler walk off. I called. The hen never even lifted her head up. The gobbler walked after another hen. Then I got on another gobbler right before quitting time but couldn't seal the deal before time ran out. It was a long hard day with alot of action and very wierd.

Joe-I bet it would be funny video if you bleeped out the curse words.

Joe, what a day!  You need to find a way to post the video of the Eagle stealing your decoy.  Your poor hen is getting beaten up this season.

Great read Joe. Can't be to hard on Joey, I would have done the same thing. Since I've only seen one eagle before in my life and that one scared the crap out of me too. It landed about 6 to 8 feet above me on a limb after swooping my decoys in sonoma! Gorgeous bird but a bit freighting.

You need to edit the video and post it. I have had some strange days in the woods, but nothing like that.

I am in the process of downloading it right now. I got almost all of the fbombs gone but I think 2 of them still made it thru. I'll post it later tonight.

;D At least you had action. Had a friend get his decoy taken by an Eagle, and finally dropped from the sky.
