Tennessee mountain hunt

I'm planning on hunting the north section of the Cherokee national Forest next spring. Would anyone who knows the area give some info on wilderness areas or big walk in sections. I know hunting big mountain ground is rough and tough, and sometimes the birds are few and far between. But I truly love the mountain hunting experience. Any info is greatly appreciated thanks

Thank you much. Hopefully they'll be a good acorn crop this year as well. Planning on coming there for a trip this summer to get a feel for the ground. I'm going to get some topo maps and do some scouting

I've hunted the North Cherokee nearly all my life. Although I'm new to turkey hunting I'm very familiar with the mountains themselves. We bear hunt with hounds so we see a lot of ground that others would never venture into.

The mountains do have turkeys but according to those who live here, and have turkey hunted over time, the numbers have dropped substantially on the North Cherokee. I purposely hunted the government land this year and very seldom saw another hunter. You'll have plenty of room to hunt if you get out of the truck and walk. Most of the turkey hunters here avoid the mountains as much as possible and hunt the farm land below.

Thanks for the replies. That's pretty much what I figured. It's the same way where I hunt. And that's why I like mountain hunting. There is less turkeys at times, but also a lot less hunters. I know suitable habitat can be a problem on national Forests these days.But I like the challenge. Can't wait to do some scouting
