Went to Michigan last week for my annual hunt with a friend and hunted Friday, I was able to get on about 4 toms and  got my Turkey at about 8:15 with a Paul Platz Double glass and my mouth call. Big bird weighted 27 pounds 10 inch beard and 1 1/4 spurs. We met back at the truck and went to get breakfast and do a few things. We went back and got in the woods around 1:30 and I struck his tom around 2 p.m using the same combo Platz/Mouth call and my friend took him around 2:15. (23 pounds 1 1/8 sharp spurs and a 11 inch beard.) Friday was a good day!!

Congrats!  I had an interesting Michigan hunt as well.  It started last Thursday in Wisconsin.  Shortly after fly down, 5 gobblers were in my lap.  I aimed at the lone strutter when his head was up and pulled the trigger and . . . nothing.  After a few attempts at trying to figure what was wrong with my gun, I ejected the shell.  Of course the tom putted and acted nervously.  I squeezed the trigger and BOOM!  Then the tom took off.  A clean miss at 12 yards.  Ten minutes later two jakes came in to my spread.  One of them humped my decoy, knocked it down and started pecking at it.  I briefly thought about burning my tag on him because I was pissed at him for messing with my decoy and I was pissed at myself for missing the tom.  Glad I didn't because while he was strutting next to my downed decoy, another tom showed up. That one didn't get away.  Then I made the 4-hour drive to a farm in southern Michigan.  I made a loop around the property in search of a strutter.  Nothing.  Then I made another loop and saw a nice tom in the corner of a field.  I knew the brush was thick near the field, so I did "the sneak" on him.  When I got to the corner of the field, he wasn't there.  I glanced at the next field and there he was.  (Or at least I thought it was the same bird).  I did another sneak and the same thing . . . no tom.  15 minutes with my mouth call and no response.  Then I glassed the next field and saw a tom and two hens.  This was the last field on the property so it was also my last chance at a "sneak."  So I made my move and ten minutes later I saw him out in the field at about 60 yards.  A few soft yelps brought him in and this time my aim was true.  I thanked the landowner and drove home.  Two turkeys in two states in two hours of hunting.  I doubt that will ever happen again.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.
