Just ordered one for my son, it should be in next week. What she'll/choke combo is everyone using.

Happy

Pick and play with chokes. Federal hevi weight #7 is the ticket for shells. I am running a trulock on my boys. Forget the diameter.

My daughter shoots the Mossberg 510 Mini Turkey Thug. I topped it with a Burris FFIII. Using a Hevishot Choke and shooting Federal Heavyweight #7's. Gun packs quite a punch due to it's light weight.

If he's a first time hunter, I recommend the full flush mount choke that the gun comes with.
My son has shot the 510 Mini for many years with an FFII on top, and shoots the Federal Heviweight 3-1.5-7's.
This combination puts 193 in the 10" circle at 30 yards, and the pattern is very even.
Just some food for thought until he gets more experience.
If he's been shooting for some time, the SSX is a fine choke.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm planning on putting a red dot on it and we'll give the Federal HW 7s a go, probably try the Hevi 13 7's as well.

My grandsons shoot that same gun and the factory modified with the Triple Beard shells is deadly out to 30 yards. It keeps a good core pattern and has a great halo pattern as well. Last week I patterned a 21" Rem-Choke gun and the modified choke with the Triple Beard was best as well.
Those shells with that choke do not have the excessive recoil that some other shells have, so it's a good choice all around.

One last thing to consider is the very small recoil pad on that gun. It's kind of tough because you don't normally want to increase the LOP but all of the recoil is really concentrated into a very small area. That's another reason it's important to pick a shell that is low recoil. I'm in the process of installing another stock on the 510 as well that has larger recoil pad but essentially the same LOP.

Good luck this season.

Thanks,
Clark
