I hunt here in SC and our season started March 15  All has been good so far with the gobblers being very vocal in the morning roost until they hit the ground and get hened up. Well last Saturday we had a cold spell come through and the temps dropped to around 35 degrees in the morning.  The bird I have been hunting was very vocal til about 9:30 and then I gave up and had to leave. I'm guessing he found a ole hen. I went back sunday morning and heard nothing. Few other guys have been hunting in the same area this week and have not heard anything as well. My brother went back to the same spot Saturday morning and this morning and heard nothing. There was a few other gobblers in this area as well. I was wondering what could cause the birds to all of a sudden have lockjaw? Take in consideration I hunted the WMA and the birds were on fire!!!! but I was on the other side of town also. Whats your opinion?

Could be alot of things. Like you say it might be the cold weather, hens, it also could be alot of pressure or they're call shy. The season there has been in for a month now.  What I would do is go there in the morning and set up and just cluck softly and sparingly as in every 15 to 20 minutes.  Sit tight for a couple of hours. You never know, something might come sneaking in to you. Try it, what do you have to lose.

I think I just might have to try it on a sunday; found some new birds to hunt in the WMA and man o man they were on fire Saturday morning.
