So many great pot call makers out there right now. Splitting hairs trying to pick one over another in my opinion. I have my favorites for various reasons but you could hunt any of them and be successful. The main thing is having confidence in the call you are hunting.
X2,i like both Halloran and Slaton calls along with pile of others but what i like or think sounds good others might not think sound so good.

The best call for you is one you can take out of your vest and run the call with ease. It's hard for someone to decide for you because your style might be different than someone elses. I would ask more about the call being most user friendly or buy one makers pot and learn how to run it. I been through a lot and messing with different pots from different makers can screw you up big time.

Forget about darrel slaton and look up david halloran. Not only will you get a great looking call but one that actually sounds like a turkey period. We realize you love darrel slaton calls and thats fine , but it seems you always down davids calls while doing it. You made a comment not long ago about a mistress or sister both being flat calls. Anybody that has ran them knows that is false. You must have gotten a lemon or 2 if you thought they were not lively. My personal opinion is davids calls are much better sounding. I will not bash slatons calls but there are several calls that sound alot better than a slaton pot in my opinion. Good day.

So the guy is looking for opinions....he has a Yingling, a custom call made by one of the old gobbler regulars....a small call maker that posts and sells calls on this forum....he's considering a hollaran, but is asking for feedback and guidance .. and is asking everyone's opinion....

I gave him my opinion, i kinda perfer the small guys that make calls one at a time...putting thier heart into it...they arent doing it to make a living, they do it because they enjoy it....not the mass produced calls...trust me, ive tried them all... some i like, most i dont....

and because my opinion is different than yours.....you're offended???

Well,
I officially apologize for stating my thoughts of DH, and his calls.

To the original poster....most guys that sell call here, will be happy to talk to you, and make a call just for you...they way you want!

oh no , I assure you im not offended. Sounds like you may have gotten offended. I gave my opinion just like you did. Didnt say mine was any more valueable than yours. personally I think Halloran pot calls are some of the liveliest out there. I personally dont think they look like a custom pot though. I have seen a few threads where you are not fond of Davids calls and thats your right , but you seem to kind of lean toward saying they are not a good call , and people who are not familiar with them value people who have first hand knowledge of a particular call. Just saying that John AND david both make nice calls that will kill birds. To the op.. Run both pots if you can and see which one you run the best. In the end its up to the bird what he likes. good luck

Thanks for all the replys. The Holloran calls have came up quite a bit. Must be a really good call. One big reason for crystal is I dont have a good custom crystal call. I always ask my wife for a new turkey call for my birthday. Just trying to narrow down my search. I hope each and every one of you limit out this year. Good luck and God Bless.

Get the Halloran Crystal Mistress. It won the DD Adams award for a reason and has a LONG history of punishing birds. This is kind of the benchmark for crystal calls in my opinion. There are LOTS of great callmakers that make excellent crystal calls and all will kill birds. But if you are looking for a proven killer, you can't go wrong with the CM.

I have called in a few birds with a CM it was a good call but broke. I have no idea how it did. I replaced it with a Lonzo crystal over aluminum in paduak.  To me it sounds better but I have to see what the birds think. It is a very easy to run call but so was the CM. Either of those pots should produce birds.  This will be my first spring taking the Lonzo call to the woods but I do prefer the looks of it to the CM for whatever that's worth.

Asking the wife for permission is a great idea! That seems to be a theme for what I have experienced this last week. One customer ordered two of my Queen copper calls and had me ship them to his parents house so he wouldn't have to check with the wife. A second put his wife on the phone for me to justify him needing  8 more calls and a third checked with the wife in regards to a box of calls that I want to send him to play and pick out what he wants lol. I have an appreciation for the customers who's wives hunt turkeys or are the wife.....

Crystal Mistress is the best sounding crystal call i have played. His Twisted Sister and Metal Mouth are both great sounding crystal calls also. That said, i dont think you could go wrong with a crystal from Brad Roberts, Lonzo, Corder, Schaffer, or Dawkins.

I've got a CM and like it. Also have several others. My Yingling crystal is generally the first out of my vest when reaching for a crystal. First custom call I bought for myself so it's likely that my opinion is heavily biased by that. Well, that and it produces the sound I like when turkey hunting. The Schaffer blue mahoe is a good one as well but I'm on my second one at the moment. Didn't care for the first one all that much. This new one is much better. Have a Lonzo acrylic crystal that's a good one as well. If you're set on crystal, there's just too many options out there to narrow it down. Bottom line, you're going to probably end up with several. Can't really go wrong with anything listed above. Good luck in your choice.
