Question for the TSS guys

Have you tried mixing shot loads?  Like Lead 6 and TSS 9 in the same shell to conserve the more expensive TSS?

In 12G loads, I've mixed lead 7s with TSS 9s, as well as Hevi13 7s with TSS 9s. Both were very deadly, to the point I doubt I would ever load straight TSS in a 12G again.

If I had saved all the money I spent on hunting, I'd spend it on hunting.

Hal has the data for a lead/tss duplex load.  If I remember correctly it saves between $2-$3 per shell.  My tss load for a 12 ga cost $6.89 per shell.  Not that much more than the average of $6 per Hevi shot load.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

I've still been shooting mostly lead with the occasional experiment with hevi.  Just got a new gun and while I'm searching for load/choke combo's I figured it might be a smart time to bypass Hevi and just make the switch to TSS.  A blended load that performs as well or better than Hevi-13 for cheaper, plus the added satisfaction of doing it myself might be worth the investment now to setup my gun and be done with it.

You most definitely can do that with deadly results. My thoughts are how many turkey rounds are you going to actually shoot. I wont shoot more than a half dozen most likely 4 or 5. Therefore to me the savings is minimal and i can g3t more pellets in a srraight tss load. 1 #9 tss pellet is packing more punch than any lead you mix with it. Just my opinion.  Good luck

I duplexed hevi-shot over TSS in my 12ga when I started loading TSS years ago.  My experience was the TSS would blow thru the hevi-shot making a wider pattern.  If you want a tight pattern, stick with straight TSS and put all the buffer in.  I now shoot 20ga and working on a 28ga.  I load straight TSS in as small of a size as I can get for the sub-gauges.

the heavier shot should be on top. this eliminates the blow through problem.

I liked the blow through problem.   :)

That's a good looking hunting pattern... But since I only shoot a few a year I would rather have all TSS...

If I ever run out of all these "best ever" turkey loads I've bought over the years I myself would like to try some TSS.

I actually just finished working up a tss load for the old 12.  Stuff ain't just for 20s.  Eventhough I mentioned the duplex load I'm all for just a straight load of #9s.

  Anyway here's the results
