Would it be a bad idea to use carburetor cleaner or break cleaner in a barrel and choke followed by a boresnake between shots while patterning.

Ok thanks. I was doing some patterning Saturday and after four or five shots I would notice that my patterns would start to get worse they would improve a little after running a boresnake but not much and thought that the carb cleaner or brake cleaner might be a quick way to clean

Carb cleaner will work fine, its mostly acetone. Been using it for over 35 years. Not going to hurt the barrel.

I don't think it will hurt the bore of the barrel but it could very easily hurt the finish of the barrel.  It doesn't evaporate near as fast as brake cleaner.

I agree with you there, be careful with the synthetics. I always liked the smell of hoppes #9 solvent.

I use what's made for guns Hoppes 9 , never seen brakes or Carburetor in or on my gun....

I like the smell of G96 gun oil more than any others.  I'm not sure what it is about it but it smells great to me lol

There's nothing like the smell of Hoppe's #9 in the morning.

Thanks,

Gasoline and kerosene work good as well.

Also remove barrel and use hot water and Dawn dish detergent this works very well. Lots of ways lots of techniques. A good brush and kerosene with do an extreme deep clean.
