New member here at this site...and I was hoping maybe you fellas would be able to help me out.  I recently picked up an old and beat up Remington 870 20ga wingmaster with a rifle sight smooth bore slug barrel chambered in 2 3/4".  I was wondering if anyone knows of any gunsmiths in Northern Ohio area that could cut the barrel for rem chokes and lengthen the chamber to 3".  This is one of the old wingmasters that was built on a 12 ga frame...so finding another barrel to fit it is going to be a real pain in the butt...I'm just wondering if this might be a little cheaper or easier route to go.  Thanks in advance for any help or advice you gentlemen may be able to give me.

I forgot to mention that I'm trying to build this gun for my wife and stepdaughter to use this spring as they are taking their hunter safety courses in two weeks...so I'm just trying to get them in the woods.  I doubt either of them will be comfortable shooting my 11/87 supermag turkey gun lol.

Mike Orlen can thread for Rem choke if your barrel is thick enough. http://www.randywakeman.com/shotgunMikeOrlen.htm

Not much I can tell you on the 20 but I have mentored with a number of women and young ladies, all have used my 1187 without a problem and have used "my" shells (Winchester XX HV 12 3" #5's)
If it is a recoil issue there are plenty of light loads out there to shoot, know there effective range and done.

Well I'm no gunsmith, but I can tell you that the barrel won't expect Rem chokes, however it will except tru-chokes. The fellow you need to talk to is William at sumtoy, he can give more advice on the subject. You may be able to conver it to 3" if a fired shell will eject from the receiver, if not the ejector needs modified.

looks like it would of been better and cheaper to of just bought a youth 20 gauge ...

I appreciate all the helpful advice gentlemen.  I did forget about having the receiver modified for the magnum shells as I don't believe that one has an "M" in the serial number.   I may end up just picking up a camo 20ga 870 for my ladies to shoot ( I'm sure I won't be tempted to carry it myself at all, lol).  I just seem to prefer the rifle sights on a turkey gun instead of the vent rib...even though I know there are quite a few aftermarket sights available for vent ribs these days.  Just nothing that fits me better than factory rifle sights on a slug barrel.   I also kind of enjoy tinkering with guns so this seems like it may be an interesting project to build instead of just grabbing an off the shelf gun and heading to the woods.  One other question I had for you guys is does anyone shoot slugs through their turkey guns during deer season with just a choke tube change.  I see that some folks on here are pretty serious about their turkey guns and use them strictly for that purpose.  I can't say I disagree as I'm always looking for an excuse to buy another gun for myself.  I just don't want to be stuck with too many youth guns if I could set this one up for a turkey/deer gun using the same barrel and just different chokes.  Thanks again guys.

I have shot slugs in my 870 sp turkey gun, using a imp. cyl. choke. Poi was pretty close, but I did it just out of curiosity, cause I did want to fool with the sights, and I have deer rifles, so I'm not using slugs! But I will say that the Fed. Tru ball slugs were very accurate to 50yds in my 20ga express.

 :morning:
A few years back I bought a cantilever rifled barrel for my 870 Super Mag and mounted a Nikon 1-4 on it. Hunted it all season here in MO with barrel and choke changes. Was a very successful year! One gun all season has it's advantages!
