Just wondering who likes reading a good book about turkey hunting. Oh to be an Old Pro, man those guys lived the life!

RutnNStrutn

Yep, I've heard of him. But the Gallberry Joe I know of is a younger guy who guys by that name on some turkey forums. Not an old pro with books. Different one?

So do I. The first book on turkey hunting that I ever bought and that was 30 some years ago  believe.

I bought that book 2 years ago off of ebay and read it cover to cover in one day. I just couldn't put it down.

Yeah it's a great book. I just got it myself the other day off ebay and can't put it down. Reading The Saga of Gallberry Joe I really felt like I was right there with him on that hunt. When that old cagey longbeard came sneaking through that opening I could feel my heart about to beat out of my chest just as if he was right there in front of me. I kept thinking to myself, "Don't mess this up kid, don't mess this up"!

If any of ya'll ever get the chance I'm sure you'll enjoy reading it. I've read a lot of great books about hunting and turkeys and I love this one. It's called The Old Pro Turkey Hunter by Gene Nunnery and it was published in 1980. It really portrays the glory days of turkey hunting back when it was just man vs. bird without all the crazy gadgetry and other modern conveniences we have now days. Ya'll check it out!

Keep on the lookout on eBay -A few years ago  I got into a correspondence back and forth with a seller and it was Gene Nunnery's daughter - got to talk with her

Nunnery's was the first turkey hunting book I ever bought, still have it.  I never quite trusted him after reading the "hunt in the buff" recommendation - figured he laughed for years over the readers that followed that advice!  I am reading some of Archibald Rutledge's turkey hunting stories at the moment - that too is some good turkey hunting reading.
"I admire a good turkey hunter chiefly because such a man displays qualities that we usually associate with pioneer America-patience, enthusiasm, woodcraft, game sense, and a quiet hardihood undaunted by rain, by cold, by long tough miles, by disappointment."

Any of you guys that have read the book ever try the naked on all fours trick to get a turkeys attention? I have but you really need to be able to trust the guy doing the shooting that day.
