Hi Guys,
A good friend and I are applying for Iowa spring tags this year, Unit 4. If you can give me any insight to this area it would be greatly appreciated..I have never hunted Iowa and it has been on my to do list since I retired! with kind regards Longbeards!

Please PM me with any suggestions!

Check out the Iowa hunting atlas on-line it's a great tool.
I prefer smaller properties as opposed to the big ones like Stephens Forest. I believe that's where many go to avoid the crowd, but in reality they are hunting with the crowd. I'm willing to recommend something specific, but not in an open forum. Good turkey hunting in that zone for sure!

I personally have never hunted in southern Iowa, I'm no help with zone 4.  Here are some links for you....one is the atlas that 2eagles mentioned. The 3rd link  is to all the county parks in the state...not all will allow hunting. You just need to know the county you will be hunting in, select a park and the info that comes up will tell you if it allows hunting. The last link is to a atlas you can purchase that shows every road in every county and all the public areas in the state.

X2 on he Sportamans Atlas. I wouldn't consider hunting Iowa public lands without it. There are a lot of birds in southern Iowa. Good luck.

I hunted southwestern Iowa a couple of years ago during the 3rd season. Worked well for me, birds were all fired up and I did fill my tag. Good luck!

gotcha

I have hunted there 4-5 times,I was on private ground but I recall some real nice state land just south of Moravia.Iowa is very proud of their turkeys, most expensive tag I ever bought and you have to draw.

Hunted the last season in 2016 and it was off the wall. All three of us tagged out.
