2 years ago, right about this time of the summer - a lone jake showed up. I put out birdseed on my lawn and he showed up every morning. After 2 weeks- a nice gobbler showed up and that jake stuck to hime like glue! Mid- winter- they both moveed across the Spring Street to Bald Hill where they came from. Now. I live at the very end of a dead-end road with a medium sized hardwood and a overgrown old horsetrack of a 1/2 mile. The town keeps the track cut . White Oaks surround this old horsetrack that has a creek right next to it. When the mast runs out--the turkeys head to Bald Hill and high ground.
About 1 week ago-ANOTHER 1 1/2 year old jake shows up sporting a 4 inch beard. He also is getting fed at my lawn and 3 days ago- a Hen showed up with just 1 poult. Wish she had more! That jake has been trying to join those 2 for 3 days now and this morning, the hen did not run off. 3 pairs of eyes are certainly better then 2! The half grown turkey is a jenny.
Anybody else here see lone jakes in August or Sept? I think this is a dangerous time for them if they are alone and not full grown gobblers yet.
