remington 870 sps 12ga. super slug

Looking for reviews on the 12ga. Remington 870 super slug gun...the one with the 25  1/2 in. Heavy fluted barrel....was thinking on purchasing this slug gun and was hoping someone had one or shot one..thanks

Interesting....I wonder how much it weighs? I bought a brand new 1187 deerhunting model several years ago with the wood thumbhole stock to replace my 870 deerhunting model shurshot stock with cantilever barrel.(wanted to go semi auto route) I hunted it one season and now it sits in the gun safe. Accuracy 1st and foremost but weight means a'lot to me in the hills I hunt in. The 1187 was like carrying a club around compared to my 870. Accuracy wise, I love both of mine. Im surprised it doesn't have a cantilever barrel,  must be because of the fluting. I would think with pinning the barrel, fluting, and 3 lb trigger pull it would drive tacks as stated on the Web site. Good luck....

Personally, if it were me, I'd look into the 20ga options. The slug is lighter, moves faster and according to the reports I've read, shoots flatter and doesn't give up much in terms of energy to the 12ga.

II am from central Illinois...everything is flat where I hunt...i hunt tree stands and blinds and only got to walk 200 yards at the most.....i currently carry a h&r 12 ga. Ultra slug hunter single shot...its very accurate out to 150 yards...with @ 3x9 Redfield revolution...it weighs 10lbs..lol....the Remington weighs 7.87 lbs without scope....i don't mind the weight since I am in one spot all day...shoot off a bipod...and am shooting in the fields with close an long shots...no timber hunting..had this h&r for as long as I can remember...just looking for another toy...

Savage 220 has rifle like accuracy.. However if I were a resident of IL I would for sure have a smokeless mzl with 400yd capabilities!!!

I agree with you. If you can find a savage smokeless ml and have you seen how much $$ they go for?

I would love to have the savage smokeless muzzleloader...my uncle has one he bought long ago..very accurate at 200 yards....i wish I could find one..they quit making them

I've had the savage smokeless ml also, great gun also, but the op may not want to spend the time to work up a load for it. It's also a bigger investment up front.

It did take time to work a accurate load for the smokeless...i think he is shooting a 220 grain hornady but can't remember what powder an grains he is using...i am sure it is accurate past 200 yards but that is as far as our range to sight in...i would be ..happy with a 200 yd smokeless muzzlelloader..most of my shots would be that an in...but really happy with slug loads..the h&r and I see the Remington sps super slug are 1 in 35 twist...that twist seems to like a little slower sabot slug...i used to shoot the federal 3 in hollowpoint..which they quit making..now I am shooting the 3 in copper solid hollowpoint...its very accurate in the h&r ultra slug...if you take your time one shot is all you need
