Man, I feel sorry for all the people turned down for private land...

I am seeing more and more how people are having trouble finding places to hunt...

Here in the state of Maine I've yet to be turned down...

I bring up hunting and people practically throw their land at me by offering it to me.

I guess they like the fact that I approach them instead of just hunting the land.... Because here in Maine you don't need permission to hunt unposted private land, because we do not have any public hunting land.

Everyone who doesn't have posted land is usually fine with letting you use the land as long as you pick up after yourself. Hopefully people can do this and be responsible hunters, my girlfriend's grandparents posted 10 beautiful acres because someone shot their dog during deer season.... While he was wearing a bright orange bandana around his neck...


on the bright side, I got permission from both landowners of a pit I shoot at that is COVERED in turkey tracks!!!

Hope that continues for you. When I was in high school and college my buddies and I had more places to hunt than we knew what to do with and didn't pay a dime. Now, for some reason everybody thinks 180 inch deer are behind every tree in KY, now you have to shell out big bucks to hunt. I know guys paying 25 an acre just to bow hunt on 50 acre pieces of land. that's 1250 for a season. I'm not kidding... It's not really like that for turkeys here but the quest for monster bucks has ruined the deer hunting in some areas of the state.

Enjoy that while it lasts!! Most states you are lucky to be able to get permission. Here in my home state of FLA, you stand ZERO chance. There are so many idiots that trespass, poach and litter that landowners don't want anyone on their property. Plus, the landowners are scared of being sued by some jerk that they are gracious enough to allow access. The lawyers down here are on TV begging anybody to sue anyone for anything. Also the big land owners know the value of their land, and the value of Osceolas, and won't let anyone hunt unless they pay BIG bucks.
For example, I found a local, small field, surrounded by "public land" that is open to hikers, bikers and equestrians, but closed to hunters ONLY - as is becoming more and more the case in Florida, that has turkeys. I did my research, called the landowner, asked very politely to BOWhunt for the turkeys, and was promptly told to F off.
I hate living in Florida. I can't wait to retire and move out of this state. So many things suck here, including the weather!!

Agreed, I've not been turned down yet, I've got a couple of real nice spots I hunt here in Maine, it's pretty nice to have private land to hunt.

This is an interesting post.  I am fortunate enough to have a large piece of land in Ohio.  I cant tell you how many times a year people ask to hunt here.  I am the type of person that normally has a hard time saying no.  However, I have become so scorned by trespassers, litterers, and people that just flat out dont know what they're doing.  The people that I have let use the land have not treated it properly.  Its a shame, because there was a time when I let people hunt and fish here.

MN can be a little rough once in a while. Mostly for deer hunting. Pheasants aren't to hard to get permission for. Field hunting waterfowl is pretty easy to unless someone beats you to it. Turkeys are pretty much seen as pests here in MN. The only problem is sometimes some farmers give out too much permission. Other than that there is tons of public land in MN. Just glad I've never had to hunt or guide on it.
