Well we just had our Learn to Hunt weekend in Barron Co. WI.  We had 23 kids and killed 7 birds with at least 3 misses.  Saturday the weather was 30-45 degrees and sunny but Sunday was cooler with very high winds and rain.  Only 1 bird was killed Sunday.

My weekend did not go as planned.  My hunter did not like turkey hunting at all.  I knew I was in trouble when he said he would rather be sleeping or playing video games.  His dad was with so I was able to push the kid a bit, but by 5 pm Saturday, he asked to go home so he could sleep.  Sunday he lasted until 9 before asking.  By the second set up Saturday, dad was carrying the gun for him.  We made 6 set ups total and had birds within 100 yards on 3 of them.  I was able to call 6 hens into the decoys but no toms were with them.  It was hard hunting knowing you were there with someone that did not have a care in the world about hunting.  I hope next year I get a kid that wants to hike and work.  At one point my buddy and his hunter had 3 toms and a hen spotted and asked if we wanted to join up for a double and my hunter asked if we had to walk.  After I said yes he said no I don't want to go after them.
This weekend, I hope to take another kid out that is very excited to go.

Hey,  Hopefully this weekend you get a kid that loves to hunt.  I guess they don't know until they try.  I am hopefully taking my stepgranddaugher with me on my fourth season to sit in the blind with me.  She just finished hunters safety and likes to watch hunting shows with me.  Good luck  Scoot

Well from the time I posted to now, I have had a student come up and ask me about the weekend.  I told him we are going to hunt hard and he is pumped up.  That is all it takes for me to get back on the turkey hunting wagon.
