thinking about making a late season trip to Nebraska, prob around the northwest part for a try at another Merriams, has anyone been the last week of May, according to this years reports, what do you think the birds will be doing, or will I be too late? still not sure on where to go, always wanted to hunt around Chadron, didn't make it that far a couple years ago, just wanting some opinions, might just be a 2017 trip, but either way, it will be me & my wife

I've hunted Memorial day weekend successfully on more than one occasion.   Could be hot, lots of ticks, some birds may be done, but covering lots of ground usually resulted in at least one opportunity.   I had a couple times that I choked the opportunity.

I hunt the SE part of the state.  Saw hens galore (even had one in the grass 10 yards from me for 45 minutes), but not a single gobble or Tom sighting all day.   Haven't had that happen all season.

yep, we usually hunt the SE part also, buddy of mine went opening week, had a sad trip, didn't kill a bird, he left back out yesterday, said he saw where the archery hunters had been on every public land spot he went to, seems like they had a two man archery turkey tournament out there, I'm wanting to go further west & maybe north some, just looking for a place to go this year, not every year, and just me & my wife

Heading out Tuesday ( the 17th ) to hunt just east of Chadron. We typically
are there for the shotgun opener but couldn't stomach another week of snow/rain mix
and wishing we were in the cabin staying warm. The outfitter was ok with us coming later
as he had an opening later.
We have had pretty terrible luck as far as weather goes the last few years. forecast
looks great this year so far. Will post how we make out.
