Seasons are open in many areas. Lots of kill/hero shots n congrats to everyone. Youth days were no exception, seems every proud pop, uncle, neighbor or friend was in on it. Very good.
As the seasons progress, we often get into the number thing. Just one more, maybe it'll be my best year yet, etc. all good stuff.

But. . .
Those same kids may still wanna hunt, maybe some kid wants to kill his/her first bird, second bird, ,  go on a next hunt. Watch a bird fly out of a tree, gobble n strut.

Truth is the most important thing we make is memories. Cold winter nights we remember them,  the same for hot summer days.
When we're gone people will only have those memories of times shared to remember us by.
Imagine the kid, now a man or woman thinking of being mentored by you, lump in their throat as they now  take a new hunter out for the first time. They watch a ball of feathers walk into one of those moments.
You can make it happen. Pass it down even during the regular seasons. Bring a kid

Agreed.

One of my youths had a shortend opening day of youth and we didn't have any birds come in and my second youth missed one on day two.  I hunted opening day during the week with out the kids, however it will be back to hunting with the kids this weekend.  I have more fun hunting with them than I do shooting one myself since they enjoy it so much.

Good post.  My oldest, about to turn 17, has hunted with me from Illinois to Washington since he was about 10.  My youngest, 13, is now on his second season and killed birds in Illinois and Montana last year.  I've posted a lot of it here.

However, it's been a struggle to get them out this year.  We homeschooled up until this school year so that has really limited flexibility with time.  Also, my oldest now has a part time job and my youngest wanted to play soccer (every Friday and Sunday evening of turkey season).

My youngest hunted the opener but no bird and we all hunted together last Saturday and my oldest passed a shot on the outside edge of 40 yards.  Right now I'm more concerned with getting them birds than more for myself.

My oldest and I will hunt all day tomorrow and Friday morning and that may close out his season.  My youngest and wife may be able to get a Saturday hunt in with me this weekend.

My boys, especially,  the oldest are my hunting partners.  Everyone else, besides my dad or brother back home, is just an extra.

Nothing better than your kids growing up in the woods with you.
