Really short barrel shortcomings?

I have had to experiment with the short barrels a little more to find the combination that works best but the guns I have that shoot the best patterns with HTL are in the 20"-24" range.

I have a BPS with a 24" bbl with a Kicks choke and a 870 with 23" bbl and jellyhead chocke.  The 870 will out shoot the BPS with a shorter barrel.

Wonder why all ammunition manufacturers base their stats on testing done from 28" barrels?

Had a mossy 535 with 20" barrel. That thing was LOUD with the short barrel...

My Mossy 500 has a 20" barrel too, and it definitely makes my ears ring more than my longer barreled guns.

Manufactures give velocity stats and pattern "promises"!  They base their velocity stats of 28 inch barrels because without fail a longer barrel will give higher velocity than a shorter barrel with the same load. The difference is usually of no concern in the real word but higher numbers sell better.

Both my turkey guns have 21" barrels. I also have 26" for both. They're just too handy with the short barrels so the 26 inchers rarely come out of the safe.
