What a day!
April 23, 2016, 06:51:07 PM
Today was the youth day in PA. I was scouting and planning this week to take my friend and his son out today. I set a blind up Thursday in an area where the birds work through frequently.
This morning we snuck in and got ready before light. Some birds started gobbling at first light but not close. We discussed moving closer and my buddies son, although only nine sits very still, is patient and quiet (this kid is going to be some hunter).
Any way, we decided to stay and call. Close to eight o'clock, a bird gobbled behind us and responded very readily. Chad and I were trying to spot him through the blind. Finally we saw him and I saw it was a long beard. He stepped out on the logging road and saw my decoys and went into strut. he strutted right in and Colby took him at 11 yes.
You never saw a 58 year old man come out of a blind faster. I was on him and had him off the ground before he could flop much ( I'm a taxidermist and don't let them flop on the ground).
We were so excited and took lots of pictures. I completed my grand slam in Florida last month and wasn't excited as much as I was over this 2 year old. Hunting with kids is great. Thanks for reliving it with me. Jim

That's too cool! Congratulations to him. Awesome, I'm guessing he might know a taxidermist, lol.

Awesome.
I had stopped turkey hunting for a few years until the kids were old enough that they wanted to tag along and their enthusiasm got the turkey juices flowing again.
He will remember that for a life time.

Thanks guys. Twelve hours later and I'm still wound up. I tried to post some pics but it wouldn't let me.
