I own two of these shotguns, a 12 and a 20 gauge, both full choke. Neither is my dedicated turkey rig but I just had a question of curiosity!

Can you shoot federal heavyweight turkey loads in them? I know steel shot is a no-no and with the "tougher" shot in these shells would it damage the barrels?

lowoctane

Been told so long as ya don't make a habit of it should be OK. Personnally, I think the only thing that might come into play is the  choked part of the barrel... :camohat:

I've shot a lot of HTL shells through my Auto5's for ducks. No issues, but mines a Mod barrel.
I would guess you'll be okay since turkey loads are smaller shot. Where I've seen issues is full chokes and 2's or bigger shot.

As an afterthought, I'd shoot LB's and not even worry about it. :camohat:

Ah...no LB's in 2.75? I don't know. Can tell ya I've killed turkeys with lead in 2.75 with those shiny A5's.  :camohat:

I've killed some with the 12ga but wanting to try the heavyweights if I can

lowoctane

Understand! Use them in a NEF 20 ga with a full choke barrel with great results!

Winchester Rooster XR is same technology as the Longbeards but in 2 3/4" and 3" loads...lower payloads of course.

I've got some of them for the 12. Do they make them for the 20?
