Trough calls

These are something that has caught my interest here lately. You don't see them in the classifieds very often tho. I have been doing some reading and research on trough calls trying to figure out who I want to get one from. I know there are several great call makers on this site, so I'm sure there are a number of folks who can build one, but with no more talk than what there is about em, it's taking a while to make a decision. I do have a question tho. I have seen trough calls out of aluminum, copper, and slate, but I haven't heard or seen any built using glass. Is this something that just won't work? Any advice you guys or gals could give would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hersh

I build troughs and have built some with glass.  Haven't made one in a while. I think one of the reasons not a lot are made is that it's hard to cut glass in thin strips. I may still have some glass strips and could whip one up.  Most of what I build is copper or slate.  Hope this helps   Ryan

What do these do differently from pot calls?

Mr.Hersh, can you tell much of a difference in sound when using glass?  Just like slate and glass in a pot call.

Hersh

Yes, just like a pot. The glass tends to b sharper and the slate more mellow.   As for the previous question about what they do different than a pot.  They are very much alike. Both work on friction with a striker so they work very much the same, just different shape.
