My girlfriend stopped at a sale on her way home yesterday afternoon and when she got here I asked if she found anything good. She said not really, but there was something kind of heavy in the back seat and asked if I'd carry it in for her. When I got to the car I saw a rectangular shaped box on the seat, but didn't think much of it til I opened the car door and noticed an H&R logo on the box. Hmmm. I opened the box and found a like new H&R 3" 12 gauge Pardner single shot. Sharon's heard me talk about the first two guns I owned as a kid, both single shots, many times and when she saw the gun she thought I might like to have it for old times sake.

I've used the same gun for all my hunting for a long time and not to sound ungrateful, but my first thought was that I couldn't imagine using another one at this point, but then again, maybe I'd use my new single on a grouse hunt or two next fall. When I looked at the barrel expecting it to be stamped Modified, I noticed it said Full. Hmmm again.

Sharon knows how I feel about my old Ithaca and said she understands if I just wanted to put it up and not use it, but she thought either way, I'd like to have it.  :z-flirtysmile3:

Just holding the gun brings back a lot of good memories and it wouldn't be right not to use it, so I guess the thing to do is to shoot a bird with one then switch to the other. I need to shoot some patterns first though.

By the way, she paid fifty bucks for the gun like I said, it doesn't appear to have been used much at all.

She sounds like a keeper.   :z-winnersmiley:

Better marry her now.... :character0029:

Keep her, but for God's sake, don't marry her.  There is something about saying those words, "I do", that makes them change.

Nothing like the simplicity of a single shot. Once you've carried one in the field it's hard to carry a 7 lb gun.

Keep that girl too, sounds like a good one!!

I concur, but you need to clone her for the rest of us turkey hunters. :z-winnersmiley:

That's a good deal! And a good lady!

Congrats!  That's a great lady you got there!

You could, instead of just putting it up....put it back in the box, send it to SumToy, have William cut the barrel, thread for choke tubes, drill/tap for front and rear adjustable fiber optic sights.  Then, after he's finished, put it back in the box and send it for a fresh coat of MO new Bottomland!

Just suggesting, that's all!

Congrats on reconnecting with old memories - priceless!
A quality paddle caller will most run itself.  It just needs someone to carry it around the woods. Yoder409

Thanks everybody. Yeah, she's a keeper for sure. Not that she likes the fact that I'm out in the woods so much spring and fall, but she understands and doesn't give me grief over it. Unlike my ex wife... That was a whole nother story. ::)

I've got a buddy that has a few shells he's willing to part with, so I'll start playing around with whatever he drops off tomorrow and we'll see how it shoots. The more I think about it the more I'm looking forward to it. ;D

Good deal! Should make a nice lightweight turkey gun. I love the older H&Rs. Unfortunately, they're not being made anymore so its already a classic.Any of the Federal Turkey loads with flight control wad would be the ticket with that fixed full choke.
