I patterned and had great results with my 870 sps-t with the SSX choke and the Federal HW #7 shells just like about everybody else who shoots this gun.  Unfortunately I simply cannot find these shells with any kind of consistency and have 5 left....and that's it.

What other shells do you find that give comparable performance with this set up?  Fed #6?  Fed #7 2 3/4, Hevi 13 blends or #7.......or others?  Any help is great.  Thanks

If I could not get Feds i would shoot the straight Hevi #7's.

My remington 20 with ssx and hevi 13 7 will put up 155 to 160 averages all day long.

I would use the Hevi #6s, even though lots of folks use the #7, I just looked at ballistics and Hevi 6 are comparable to Fed HW7.  Of course, that is if the pattern is acceptable. I know what Hevi 6 will do as I have shot a lot of birds with that.  Poison.

Might as well check out Win Pb #5.

Later in the summer and maybe into the fall Midway , cheaper than dirt and sportsmans guide will have the Federal 7's in stock . Probably other places too . I learned to pick up about 4 boxes at once when I find them . Might try Gander Mountain too , they had them this year in early spring , all of these were within a couple of dollars of each other in price

+1 .... they will be available again soon. This happens every year.

I try to buy all my turkey ammo around Thanksgiving time. Never have trouble finding it and it is a little cheaper usually.

I know what ya mean. My wife packed used 3.5" longbeard 5's this year cuz we couldn't find the heavyweight 7's anywhere and she only had one left. I think she might plan on taking over my 535 after damn near blowing ones head off at 20 yards.

Now that they're only going to do the 20ga load in #7s, it might improve availability.

you would think these idiot ammo makers would get a clue.... Year after year,  #4,#5,#6 always in stock.. #7 always out.  Humm .. maybe they should make more #7 ?

owlhoot

hopefully quit using them up in the 3rd degree ::)
