My son and I made our 2nd turkey hunt Saturday and although we didn't get one we still had a blast. Our story starts last year on our 1st hunt 1 week before the end of the season when he tells me he wants to go turkey hunting. We bought some shells and a slate call and headed to the camp. Not knowing the first think about hunting them we chased birds all weekend but didn't score (not unexpected) but had a great time and got hooked on something else to hunt to annoy my wife lol. We headed to camp this past Friday afternoon and tried to roost one but never heard any fly up or gobble. We went back to the same spot the next morning well before 1st  light and waited for a gobble. The owls were hooting all over but didn't hear anything before daybreak. At 7 am we heard one gobble about 150 yds away and slipped in to about 100 yds from him and set up. I made a few soft clucks and purrs with no response so I made a few soft yelps but still nothing. The next time we heard him he was about 200 yds from us and heading away. We gave up on him and did some walking looking for sign. At 8 am we found a good looking spot when we heard another one gobble close to us. We set up and started calling but never heard him again. We were about to leave when I saw 3 birds coming about 150 yds away. I made a few calls and got them to 40 yds and noticed it was 2 hens and a Jake. I called a little more and brought the Jake in to 30 yds and noticed he didn't have any beard that we could see. I told my son that he was legal to shoot if he wanted but he decided to pass on him. We played around with them for another 15 minutes before they left. We never got on any other birds but had a blast. We are going back on April 4th for a week of turkey hunting so maybe we will get a chance to make our first kill but if we don't we'll have fun trying.

sounds like you both had a great time and thats all that matters. Good luck to you both on your next hunt.

spending time with family will always be better than the kill any day. Good luck with the rest of your season.  :icon_thumright:
